The Saugatuck Douglas area is located on the beautiful Kalamazoo, and the Retreat House is only a short three to four block walk from downtown Saugatuck. Visitors will find numerous shops, restaurants, lounges, coffee shops, and art galleries. A short drive across the river takes you to Douglas where you will find more shops, galleries, restaurants, and coffee shops, as well as a grocery store and gas station. Also within an easy 10 minute drive are other delightful places to visit. There is, of course, the world famous Oval Beach on Lake Michigan (rated by MTV one of the 10 best beaches in the country), the Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society Museum (open May through November), and during the summer months the Chain Ferry that has been in operation since the 1830s. Guests can make arrangements to rent kayaks from Running Rivers in Douglas, or sail and power boats from the marinas in Saugatuck. Many individuals and groups enjoy the Douglas Dunes Ride or an hour long ride on the Saugatuck Duck. There are three area
