The Rev. Dr. Jay Emerson Johnson - Rector
Jay was born in Ann Arbor, MI, and grew up outside of Chicago. After graduating from Wheaton College and Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1988. He served as a parish priest in the Diocese of Chicago for three years before moving to Berkeley, CA, to work on a PhD in theology, which he completed in 1998. Jay has served as a member of the associate clergy at the Church of the Good Shepherd since 1992 and as a member of the faculty at Pacific School of Religion and the Graduate Theological Union since 2003, all in Berkeley. In addition to offering workshops and retreats around the country and internationally, he is also the author of three books, including Dancing with God: Anglican Christianity and the Practice of Hope.
